Often times, human qualities, such as love, hate, and jealousy, were attributed to the gods. Nature was a commonly worshiped throughout the culture. For example, one goddess who was popular was Gaia or Mother Nature, who was the goddess of Earth and who was married Ouranos, the god of the sky. She described why the seasons changed and controlled the powers of Earth.
